Ericsson, Twilio, SAP, Zoom, Dell and Alphabet have also cut their workforces over the past few months. Atlassian has just announced a similar 5 percent reduction in its workforce, although for the collaboration upstart this amounts to 500 souls. Microsoft is not alone in shedding employees as tech companies face straightened conditions post a COVID boom that saw unprecedented levels of hiring. All of the affected employees will be informed by the end of this month, the Windows giant said in an SEC filing at the time. The cuts are part of the 10,000 global layoffs announced by the company on January 18th, amounting to 5 percent of its staff. According to a WARN notice filed by Microsoft and made public yesterday, 689 people at its Redmond, Washington headquarters and nearby areas will receive pink slips.
